Natural Hair in the Workplace

What a great episode of Living Single. Kyle faced discrimination in the workplace due to his locs. And he didn't even receive that much slack from the white board members, it was from a fellow black man. Wow, what a surprise right.

The episode is split up into 3 separate pieces, but I just jumped to the end where Kyle gave his speech. Enjoy!

Money May Not Grow on Trees...

But every once in a while you can find it laying on the ground!  So I was out today about to get something to eat and noticed a sight like this. No this isn't the money....  chile, when you see money, you don't have time to be stopping and taking pictures of it for your blog!  I love ya'll and everything but sheesh... you got to scoop and keep it moving....

But anyway, it was $50 though!  I acted all nonchalant about it, put my book bag down, acted like I was looking for something, and scooped up the money!  Call me trifling for not "trying to find the owner," but shoot,  I ain't  going around tapping people on the shoulder, "Um hi Ma'am, excuse me, did you just lose $50 dollars?" Chile please.

Dang, I feel like listening to some Ice Cube, "It Was a Good Day."

Im an 80's Baby

Born in 1986, but I act like I was born in 1946, I'm an self proclaimed old soul. Anyway, check this out ya'll:

Yeah, so I am definitely working on getting me a new camera....if you squint real hard, you can see the cute little mini lips that is the handle! How cute!

Please excuse the pen marks too, when I saw that on the side of my beautiful wallet I almost had a conniption. I dig this wallet because, well, it looks like it stepped right out the 80's! I know I was only a toddler in the 80's but I remember all the red and pink lips and these guys:

Anybody else had the 7 UP video game on Sega Genesis?!!?!?

I know I took it waaaay back with that one. I like this wallet because I can do this:

It's so sleek and flat and small that it goes perfect with those little cute clutch bags and you still have room for lipgloss and the blackberry! And its RED. Yum! I only wish I would have gotten the pink one too, especially since I couldn't decide... oh well...maybe your local H&M still has some left. If I am not mistaken, I think they cost less than 5 bucks...what a great deal!

Shaving All My Hair Off Was Fun....

But I will never do it again! Not unless I have to! This is worse than waiting for water to boil or that last one hour of work to be over....sheesh

So this is what I was working with before. The picture on the left is from December 2008. The picture on the right is from September 2009. The reason why the big ole fro on the left looks all dusty and filthy is because it is slathered in conditioner because I had just got done taking down some 6+ week old braids. It was so huge I had to take a picture, conditioner blobs and all.

The million dollar question that I get asked all the time "Why Ms-gg, why!!! Why did you cut all that hair off? You aren't going Britney Spears on me are you?" No I am not Britney, Amber Rose, Solange or any other celebrity who decided to shave their heads. I am Ms.GG.

Telling someone you cut all your hair off because it was damaged gets you a crazy look just as quick as if you told them you cut it off because you wanted to. People are so attached to hair. One thing I hate to see is people who are holding on to scraggly see through ends, just so that they can have "long hair." I am so tempted to walk up behind them with a pair of scissors and snip it right on off...I wish I was lying right now but I'm so serious...

So no I am not crazy, I'm not on "that stuff," or anything else. And to be honest, I do not feel like less of a woman either. At times I did, but as long as you look like a woman, no one is going to mistake you for a man (unless you look like Wesley Snipes in the face or Jay Z).

And ladies who are afraid that men will find them less attractive because they are bald/nappy/natural/whatever
Ummm...FALSE! I have a boyfriend and he did not run to Shaneka because I shaved my hair off and to be honest, I think I got hit on more with shorter hair than longer hair. Just do it!

Beautiful Natural Woman Wall Art

OMG this is beautiful! I was browsing etsy the other day and I stumbled across this beautiful decal... talk about gorgeous! I just had to share it with ya'll because I dang near passed out after seeing it..
According to the vendor, she said that she can customize.... wouldn't it be sweet to have your face and fro hanging on the wall? I wonder is she could do that...that would be HAWT

My Hair Products: 2010

If you don't remember anything else in life about how to care for natural hair, please remember that less is definitely more when it comes to hair:

The less you manipulate your hair (combing, styling, touching aka HIFD hand in fro disease), the more healthier your hair is going to be.

The less products you use the better. You do not, I repeat, do not need 25 different products to use on your hair. I KISS (keep it simple stupid, no I am not calling you stupid lol) I use 10 drops of Dr. Bronner's castile soap diluted with a half cup of water to shampoo my hair maybe once a month, and use any conditioner I have on hand to condition with. Then there are about 4 products that I use on my hair:

styling: Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera gel with naturals for shine and light hold
Don't judge me and my hording tendencies :)

World of Curls curl activator gel

both of these products are also moisturizers. I do not use a product just for shine or just for hold. All of my products have multiple purposes and therefore I cut down on the amount of products I use. Mmm Hmmm...

For daily moisture I use products that are water based. Water is very very important ingredient not only in our internal diets but also for our hair as well. Nothing can live without water, including our hair. Some lucky people can get by with just a water spritz everyday. I am not that lucky. So I use Greg Juice by Oyinhandmade

and I also use World of Curl Comb Out Spray.  EDITED JUNE 2010-  I no longer use this formula of the comb out spray, I now use the regular formula.

and StaySof Fro by Softsheen and Carson.

At the most I might use 2 of the products at one time, but never 3 spritzes at once. It's just overkill. And the only reason why I might use 2 is because sometimes Greg juice is the bomb moisturizer, but it doesn't really do nothing as far as shine is concern, so I do a spritz or two of World of Curl's spray to give it a light gloss. The World of curls comb out spray has lanolin in it and the lanolin is what gives my hair some shine :)

A Public Service Announcement

Okay, so as of right not this blog is what, about 2 months old? It is an infant, a baby, a newborn. And it doesn't have that many pictures or anything else. Right now it is, well-dull. But hey, if you like my hair and want to see more of it please please please visit my fotki hair album at

It is almost four years old. I started that album in September of 2006 and just made updates a few weeks ago....go check it out!

Love ya, DEUCES

It's no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy

Singing at the top of my lunnnnngs:
It's no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy
'Cause every now and then I kick the living Sugar Honey Ice Tea out of me
The smoke alarm is going off, and there's a cigarette
Still burning, please tell me why............

Did you know that you can be your own worst enemy? I know I can be my own. All of my life I have been scared of failure, and in the process of being scared on failing, I actually fail. You know, I am one of those people who are pretty much all or nothing, an extremist when it comes to perfectionism.

If I can't do it, I give up. I haven't always had this attitude, but I have been adopting this mindset, and I don't want to anymore. I doubt that people will "get me" and I will be a failure. I have always been the person who dresses a little different, acted a little different, and did my own thing. Whatever everyone else was doing, I always tried to do the complete opposite.

I just wish that I had the courage and the "swagger" (woe is me) to say, "yeah my ish is the hottest, dopest designs since microwave popcorn," but I don't have that kind of confidence---yet. You guys watch, I'm going to get there, you just wait and see!

Alright, alright....I gained enough courage to post 2 of my original designs:

This was the first one I ever did:

This is the second bag. The 70's was definitely my inspiration...like this natural chick was tripping out on LSD or something...oh and by "this natural chick" I mean the chick on the box, McGruff told me to said say no to drugs :)

Ya'll ever get like this too? Am I the only one? I need some of that Kanye/Diddy swagger forreal...where they selling that at?

Buckle Gladiator Sandals by Forever 21

I usually don't do Forever 21 shoes, because they are plastic and uncomfortable for my wide feet thanks to my plump youth days. But these shoes are the bizness because they have the adjustable strap that allows for all day comfort.

I just love these and for only $20 you can't go wrong! These are my fashion forward shoes....a perfect way to update any vintage outfit... I just wish they had them in a few different colors because I would get them all! I am one of those kind of people who buy the same thing in a different color...don't judge me, my busted feet or my green toenails :P

My Hair Products

I try to keep it simple as possible because using 2500 different hair products gets kind of expensive. I don't know about you, but I don't like spending all my money on HAIR. That is one of the reasons why I kicked the relaxer to the curb....to save money!

Anyway, this is one of my favorite products:

As you can see I proposed to it...you can't let a good thing get away! But forreal, World of Curls Curl Activator Gel is what I use on my twists. It keeps my hair soft and shiny.

I also use this stuff:

I use it to moisturize my hair once it is in a style. I spray once in the morning and once in the evening. I may not get the Greg Juice again because by the time I got done with the shipping and handling it was frickin $16!!! Yeah I'm cheap like that. Hmph....

Sta Sof Fro (why must they do our products like that?) is some really greasy stuff. So be easy with it unless you want to be slipping and sliding everywhere. And that is about it. Like I said, I try to keep it simple.

Let's Get Married!

Hellur! I had a wonderful weekend and I hope you did too! My future mother-in-law got married on Saturday. I'm going to start from the top and work my way down. Okay, so this is how I wore my hair:

(Ummm...please excuse that big hump on my face....I thought wrong when I thought I would outgrow acne)

I started around 10:15 pm, and ended around 1:30 am or so. They were A LOT bigger than I really wanted them to be, but at 10 at night, you have to improvise! And please please PLEASE ignore the makeup. My house is dark as crap and I can't see what I am doing. So I look in a picture and notice how off it is and its too late. Oh well. Anyway, I did the two strand twists on damp hair using world of curl curl activator. After I was done my hair was so dry! So I then took some of this StaSof Fro spray and saturated my hair with it.

And here is me and the dress. I LOOOOOVE this dress so much. I had it for over a year and never got a chance to wear it out.

And the shoes. I know they are a little futuristic, but I LOVE them to DEATH! Jeffrey Campbell did his thing when he made these:

I'm going to cross my fingers and PRAY that this hairstyle lasts me until the end of the month. It is growing back very well and I can't believe my hair was this short not even 5 months ago:

Yeah dude, that was me! So if anybody is scared to cut it off, I want to tell you don't be! As long as you take care of it, it will grow back. Don't believe me, see above for reference. Until next time, Peace Love and Hair Grease!
