End of Year Natural Hair Wrap Up

Over a year ago my hair was something like a distant memory:

December 2009

By April 2010 I had enough hair for twists:

September 2010 I suffered my first setback after this style:

But presently, December 2010, I think it is safe to say I have recovered from my two inch trim:

So over the course of almost 365 days I think I have made a lot of progress:

I am not where I wanted to be, thanks to my setback, but nonetheless I have gained some length.  In 2011 with the knowledge I have gained in 2010, I plan to retain almost all of my length.

I have learned these things about my hair in 2010:

My hair hates protein
Fingercombing is waaaaay better than using a comb or brush.  It is my new staple technique.
Seamless combs rock my socks
Trimming hair is overrated
Coconut oil and water is the bomb detangler
I don't enjoy wearing my hair out as much as I did when I was newly natural.
Once you get rid of incomplete splits, it is sooo much easier to detangle your hair
Detangling my hair at least once every 1-2 weeks is a must!
Tangles are caused by shed hair!  If you properly remove all of the shed hair, parting is much easier (yeah, I am on the nappy short bus, I never really saw the correlation until this year. womp womp)  !

  1. Great growth, girlie.

Your BC is precisely how I want to cut my hair if I ever chop the dreads.

I agree about wearing the hair out. When I first chopped I was all about the fro/puff until I realized how much better twists were for me.

    @Anonymous:

It wasn't the style that caused the setback. Sorry, I think the way I worded that sentence does lead you to believe that, my fault.

I tried a new conditioner after that style and it dried my hair out so bad it caused splits up and down my hair strand for 2 inches and I had to cut them out :(
